OUR required water consumption!
Ok, so in Anatomy last week we did this cool worksheet on water consumption! It was very educating and interesting so I wanted to share.
I thought of all the times myself and you guys struggle to drink 30 oz. of water. And now I know how greatly that hinders our bodies.
So here goes, it's an equation...
(I'm going to fill in my info in the blanks to show you how I get the answers)
1. Body weight in pounds: 210
2. Body weight divided by 2: 105 (two lb units)
3. To get basic daily requirement:
105 (two lb units) multiplied by 1.5 ounces = 157.5 oz of water
(If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, use 1.0 ounces per two pound units)
4. Dry climate requirement:
Basic requirement (from #3) ounces/day ADD 16 ounces (for dry climates) = 173.5 ounces/day
5. Plus Strenuous exercise:
Basic requirement (from #3) ounces per day ADD 16 ounces (for strenuous exercise) = 189.5 ounces/day
*So, I did do the dry climate b/c I live in Phoenix. But if you don't then you exclude those 16 oz. And likewise, if you do minimal or average exercise daily, you could stick with the "Basic Daily Requirement" without adding water.
So then it goes on to say:
"Water should be consumed continuously throughout the day based on the number of hours you are awake each day.
6. 173.5 ounces Required per day DIVIDED by your waking hours (I sleep 7 hrs a night on the average so I did 17 hrs as my waking hours...so 173.5/17) = 10.2 ounces per hour you should drink!
*So for me, I will try to meet the basic daily requirement plus dry climate on an average day. BUT on days when I exercise at all, I will shoot to go over that. I need 173.5-189.5 oz per day! Sheesh! Looks like I need !5! of my 32 ouncer!
Hope this helps anybody understand what ours bodies NEED!

Thanks for the stats, water has the key to me feeling better than I have in a long long time. I saw your picture in the side bar, I recently got into a size 14 as well, feels pretty great.

ReplyDeleteHey cutie.. Water and fluids, watch the terms, I get yelled at all the time. Math is great, but the water is all fluids. Everything counts. Additionally, calories of food x .0034 = the amount of fluids you get from food. All good, and have fun
ReplyDeleteMakes me want to pee just reading the equation. :)
ReplyDeleteYikes! Thats a ton of water..I usually try my best to do 3 nalgene bottles a day 96 ounces
