How Lizzle got fat... : (

Let me start by saying that I have been over-weight since I was a child. I have tried almost everything except perfectly sticking to eating perfect and working out 4 hours a day. For the last year and a half I have been researching weight loss surgeries because I have great insurance through my work.
Then about a year ago I came to the conclusion that the Gastric Lapband is the one for me! It is permanent and adjustable. The adjustable feature is probably the most important thing for me because I am still young and I hope to have more children. So when you find out you are pregnant, you just go to your doctor and they adjust the tightness of the band around the stomach to allow for additional calories for you to carry a child. Then after the child is born or after you're done breast feeding, you go back in and they'll adjust it back down to put you back on a restricted amount. Thus, helping you lose the babyweight and get back down to the goal weight.
So that is why this is the method for me. My eating issues stem from control issues due to an ex-step-dad who would take food away from me or not allow me to have it. he would act like food was a privaledge and not allow me to have it. My mom would sneak me food when he wasn't home and if he found out he'd beat her when he got home. And somehow, he always knew. I was just 6 years old. Not long after that my mother left him. However, I've had to deal w/ these issues my whole life. And I honestly didn't even realize that he was the reason why until January of 2009. It hit me in a conversation with my sister. So since then I've had to tell myself that nobody is going to take my food, and to stop being so pocessive of my food, and it's ok if my boys eat "my food", b/c I need to learn to break the tie I have with food.
I need my mind to know that food is just for the nourishment of my body, not to make me feel better or feel in control.

xoxo,
Liz
