Hittin' the ground runnin'...sort of...
Alrighty so peoples, I'm proud of myself!!!
I MADE IT BACK TO THE GYM!
I walked in there sooooooooooooo motivated to kick ass. Let me start w/ a bit of a backstory...
My big sister (weights 160) and her bff (weights 140) decided a few mths ago to do a half-marathon together in the bff's town of New Orleans! I was beyond stoked! I was probably around 240-245ish then. My goal was to be 220 by the race. I'm now down to 228 and race day is 9 or 10 days away and I haven't worked out in about 2 weeks. Well I emailed them both on FB and say somethin' like "I'm bummed with me being so sick lately that I can't train. I just want to be able to keep up with you guys and not hold you back." then my sis writes back and says how we'd never all be able to stay together...and INSINUATES...that she is gonna dust us. haha! Well I was alittle pissed at first but then she just provoked the competetive in me.
So that being the backstory...now being the story. I decided after that little email this am, I'd workout this evening, no matter what. Before my kids were in bed, before I was exhausted. So I get the kids from school early, do dinner and HW early and head to the gym by 6pm. Get the kiddos in the childcare and decide to START on the treadmill (instead of elliptical) and see how much I can run being that my lungs feel like they have the capacity of a 90 yr old man who's smoked his whole life....
I AMAZED MYSELF! My last run was 7 minutes straight, and I can't remember how far. Tonights goal was to run 10 mins straight, at least improve. Didn't know if it'd be possible, freshly over bronchitis. I got to 10 mins, and kept on. Said I'd like to get to a mile. I get to a mile and keep going. I stepped off for like 20 seconds to get a drink of water. But then stayed at all, hardcore. I RAN 25 MINS SOLID...FOR A TOTAL OF 1.8 MILES!!! i'm amazed, amazed, amazed! Truly, anything is possible when you put your mind to it. I wanted to do it, had thoughts of being a personal trainer and being a good example, and honoring my inner athelete (which is living more on the outside than ever now) and was stoked w/ my results!
So orig goal was to train to be able to run 3 miles straight during half-marathon like this: 3 mile jog, 1/2 mile walk, 3 mile jog, repeat. Well after tonight I think it's possible I could get up to 4 miles before half-marathon time, or even more. I dunno. But I'm so eager to push myself now and see my limits.
So then I'm emailing my sis and her bff again tonight about my run and I asked them how long they go straight (w/o walking) and their times and stuff to see if we're anywhere near the same. My sis said the most she'd ran was 2 miles straight and I don't think her bff responded yet. I was surprised. I guess they both do a lot of walk/jog rotation. I know her bff had a bad foot/leg injury a month ago and has HAD to go easy and has done more walking uphill kinda stuff on the treadmill. I just hope I'm careful and don't injur myself. Hurt my left calf tonight jogging, but it's all good now. Hope it's well in the morning. Fridays are a day OFF for me, thank God, so I'm planning on hitting the gym first thing in the morning before errands or tiredness sets in.
Thanks for listening and the comments! I'll let ya know how it all progresses! OMG! I'm soooo excited! Only 9 days away!!!!
