Lemons & Lemonade
Alright so I don't have long but I need to blast this out so you guys all know what's going on.
Tue evening Konnor was having trouble breathing at school. His asthma was flaired up b/c it seemed like he had a cold or something, and it just kept getting worse. By Wed morning he had this nasty, dry, croopy cough so I took him to his pediatrician. He gave him a shot of a steroid, and 3 breathing treatments b/c he thought he had pnuemonia. His pulse ox went from 93 to 87. So after 2 hours he sent us to the ER. We went to our favorite, speedy hospital where they take real good care of you and they had us there from noon until 7pm Wed when they transferred him via ambulance to a Children's Hospital in Mesa. They couldn't get his pulse ox level up high enough either and at that first hospital he was officially diagnosed with pnuemonia and a "touch" of bronchitis, whatever the "touch" is. At THAT hosp his pulse ox stayed around 89. We got to the childrens hospital and they got him on IV antibiotics and steroids and had to put him on oxygen for him to breath well enough to sleep through the night. He was doing breathing treatments every 3 hrs and couldn't come off the oxygen that night. Thur morning around 8 or 9, I took the oxygen off to see how he did while he was eating and stuff, (he was super annoyed w/ it but he was hooked to a constant pulse ox machine so I'd know if his lungs really started to struggle). The amazing thing, HE DID FINE! so his pulse ox then was about 90 or 91 and md said he needed to be at 92 to go home, they wanted to make sure he was strong enough. So then that morning he progressively got to 92-95 consistently!!! I was so excited. He was still tired and run down but his mood was normal lil' ol' Konnor man! He was doing good. They watched his pulse ox level while he was napping and then spoke w/ his asthma specialist in the afternoon to get him discharged that night. So Thur night we got to come home at 7pm and I hadn't seen Riley in 2 days. I missed that lil man so much I could've cried when I held him when I got home! I felt so bad for what he was going through, home alone w/ grandparents, but he didn't want to come to the hospital when my mom asked him. We don't know why. I am just glad NOW to be home.
Food: Ugh! Those 2 days in the hospital environment worried about my baby, my baby at home, and my ever quickly approaching half marathon...I gorged myself. Well, maybe not THAT bad b/c the band stops me! THANK GOD! But I did eat frequently, like once every two hours, snacked on slider foods, ate only liquids filled with calories, ugh it was bad people, baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad! Mostly it seemed to be chips and snack junk like gummy worms and choc covered pretzels! haha (those are my fav, ugh)! So then halfway through the day Thur I told myself I just couldn't keep that up. I was so swollen and my stomach was noticably protruding, it was pathetic. I didn't even want to fathom my weight. So I got the water and guzzled it the rest of the day. Had my mom bring me my cliff energy bars that are all nautral/good for ya! Had a thing of pudding instead of ice cream when I had a sweet craving. I tried to flush all that junk out of my body!
Half-marathon: NOT gonna happen. Thur night coming home I wanted to decide if we were gonna be able to fly out Fri morning as planned, but I was sooooooooooo exhausted I passed out at like 9pm. Then Fri morning I knew there was just no way I could get all the laundry done, house cleaning, packing etc. So I decide we'd try to leave Sat morning fly into Ark or directly into Louisiana. I checked the prices and it was going to cost me an extra $550 to fly into EITHER place Sat. So that was NOT an option. So I decided we wouldn't go. I can't even describe my BUMMER mood for not being able to go to my half marathon.... in new orleans....with my sis and danielle, just sooooooooooo bummed. But kid health issues are always unexpected and there is no priority over that. He survived, he's doing great. So I figured, I'll do what i can to satisfy my "running goal" here in Az. So I looked up races going on here this weekend and the longest one I could find was a 15k on Saturday. It's at the Sonoran Preservative in Scottsdale, it's about 9 miles. SOOOOOOO, I signed up for it!!!!!! I'm stoked! Glad to be doing something to get close to accomplishing my goals, even though there was stumbling to get to it! I'm only a BIT bummed to be doing it alone, but at least that way I can focus on ME and doing my best and be all in my head!!! Jenn, Danielle and I WILL reschedule another kickass half marathon! And Aimme and I are going to set a goal to do one here in Phoenix together around April-May before it gets too hot! So, all shall be okay!
Thur night my weight was 231, wowsa! This morning (Fri) it was 229. My weight pre-hospital stress induced food coma: 226. haha! Oh well. I have been sooooooooooooooo good all day today! Tons of water, vitamin water, doubling my vitamins (b/c I'm gettin a bit of a sore throat) and did meal replacements 2 out of 3 meals today! Then tonight for dinner I had a high carb meal! I did the extra carbs for my run tomorrow. And now before bed I'm having a mixed berry protein shake to help w/ muscle recovery tomorrow! In the morning, I'll have another protein shake before I leave the house. Then I'll have a cliff energy bar RIGHT before the race starts. Today I bought the GU Roctane Energy Gels to have DURING the race, Aimme suggested using them once every 45 mins or so, and that's what the package says too! So I got those, hope they're yummy. I bought one of those kamel backpack things that is a 50oz. water bottle backpack w/ the straw that comes around. I'm sooooo stoked!!! It is so small and seems like it'd be so comfy when running. I bought a new royal blue Nike running top!!!! I can't wait to post pics and share the time.
My normal jogging seems to be around 15-16 mins to get in a mile. No where near the fastest but I get it done, ya know. So I figure the run will take me 2 hrs and 15 mins. If so, then I'll be satisfied! If faster, then score! My goal is just COMPLETION! (hopefully with about 90% jogging 10% walking). After I get 1 of these done then I plan on training to increase my speed!
I love you guys, hope you have a good weekend and really hope your week wasn't as stressful as mine, or at least, I hope you didn't eat your emotions like I did. ; (

Yow!! That was a stressful week, girl. Your poor little man too, what a thing for you both to have to go through. Hope he's on the mend now.
ReplyDeleteI hear you with the food thing.. Thursday was a day like that for me too - we end up feeling bloated and wonder if all the crap food was worth it. I think not!! The good thing? We get right back on the wagon asap and sort ourselves out again.
Hope you have a lovely weekend. Have a little fun if you can :)

I am so glad your little boy is doing better and sorry to hear about the half marathon. But I gotta tell you I am super impressed that you went and found another race to run and that you are stoked about it! I am so impressed by your running, I just cannot get into it! Will be thinking about you today, hope you have a great time!
ReplyDeletePoor little guy...My youngest has had pneumonia(asthma) three times...the fever/breathing scares me! Have fun on the run!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear everything is okay with Konnor. You're right, kid's take priority over everything else but it is a bummer you'll miss your run. But, good for you for signing up for a local one so you could still accomplish a goal!
ReplyDeleteI've been looking at your updates on Facebook! Super excited for you! Keep us updated on everything and I know you'll do great! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Everybody! I did do the race here today, tons to share about it and, of course, TONS of pics! I'll try to get around to it tonight!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the race pics and hear about it!!! I'm glad your little man is doing better!!!
ReplyDeleteXOXOXO
So glad to hear your boy is on the mend. You are so focused to find another race...good luck
ReplyDeleteAww honey, I'm sorry to hear how he wasn't doing well. I'm glad he is better now and you can all relax. It sounds like you are doing the right thing to get back on track which is awesome.
