Food Diaries
okay so for the good:
-I got some baskin robins ice cream for my mom and myself the other day when passing by b/c it's her fav. I got myself 2 scoops of choc w/ the peanut butter ribbons. I couldn't even eat 1 whole scoop b/c it was way too sweet! Thank goodness my taste buds must be changing.
-I got this HUGE piece of birthday cake at work Friday ( i mean bigger than normal) b/c I thought I'd just screw up myw hole day and enjoy. Well....turns out the cake was dry and my band wouldn't let me eat it all anyway. I maybe ate a 1/3 of it, but did eat most of the icing off for the sweetness, haha! So I'm guessing quanity wise, I did ok.
-My mom ordered pizza and pasta from pizza hut and invited us over friday night. I decided I'd stick to the pasta (which is easy to measureout into a bowl) and ignore the pizza b/c I can go overboard w/ pizza. So I had about 2 cups of pasta and 2 bites of a cheese stick and I felt good after. I managed to watch myself b/c I measured it out.
For the bad:
-I had a chicken quasadila 2x this past week, on a spinage tortilla. I used to would eat the whole thing and feel like good, not stuffed or anything. I've not had this sense my surgery. So I had one and first mistake was waiting until I was starving so I gave myself permission to eat the entire thing. So I did...and it went down fine....but I almost threw up. The "stuffed" feeling overwhelmed me within 20 mins and took over my life for the next few hours. but guess what, 2 days later, I did it again. Butttt, this time I said I'd eat 2-3 of the 4 "triangles" (b/c it's cut up, ya know). So I'm slowly eating while I work. 2 triangles down and I mentally give myself permission to eat the 3rd. After that I waited 10 mins while working and wasn't stuffed yet so I gave myself permission YET AGAIN to finish off the 4th. Then....only then....did the horrible stuffed feeling hit me. Sucky too b/c both days I was mentoring right after so I'm feeling all stuffed, bloated, and burping uncontrollably. That i've heard is a huge sign you ate too much, when you have lots of burps.
-I snacked! Some say this is fine but my MD says do not do it. I physically stay full for 5-6 hrs so I technically have no need to snack anyway. I only do it b/c mentally I'm wanting something. Problem time seems to be a few hours after dinner, boys are in bed, I'm playing online, and I want to "munch" while playing online. I generally go for the pretzels. They are easy, but you just keep wanting more and more and more.
-I had ramon noodles this week. I should probably just throw those away. I think technically it's a "slider" food b/c it's pasta and slidey (??) but they don't keep me full for long and b/c I used to LIVe on them they remind me of unhealthier times and for some reason, make me want to eat unhealthy things. I went 2 wks w/o them, had then once, and I've had then 2x since then. So I really must just do away with them.
-(btw, I have an addictive personality) So I tried mcdonald's sweet tea the other day b/c the large is $0.99 and my stepdad said it was awesome. I FELL IN LOVE! I love tea but I don't make it at home or I won't drink any water. My nutritionist said avoid caffeine, just as her personal preference but it would not harm the band. The no-no part is b/c caffeine is a natural diuretic. So say you have 2 cups of tea, you must have 2 cups of water just to even that out. <----Those 2 cups of tea do not count for your daily total. So she said, watch myself, be careful, and get enough water daily. So I do, but I got obcessed w/ the large tea and I had 1 daily to start my day off in the morning. Well the last 3 days I've had 2 daily. So now I'm thinking...THIS HAS GOT TO STOP! I love the tea, really do, but if I was honest I'm probably not getting enough water if I"m having TWO HUGE tea's a day. So I think I'm going to remove them for a bit, maybe a weekend treat or something, but not allowed daily.
-last confession. I know how to cheat the band. I begged my surgeon to not tell me, I tried to close my eyes and ears on chat boards, but I heard it. Once I know it, I do not trust myself to not TRY it. So this is what I've learned.... drinking WHILE eating is major cheating b/c you're washing food down through your band, it doesn't sit there to fill you up. I've done this maybe 6 or 7 times on PURPOSE when I knew I was eating too much, b/c I wanted to avoid that "stuffed" feeling. Yet, I am aware that is the purpose of the band. haha! So I did that and feel horrible about it. Also I've had 1 HUGE drink after a BIG meal, to move it through. I've heard the cheat of drinking a milk shake b/c it just goes through but it's empty calories, I haven't done this b/c I don't care too much for milk shakes. The ice cream I'm sure slid threw but I watched how much I had. I really do TRY not to cheat, but the fact that I know how bothers me. So, I will just continue to watch myself and be accountable to all you guys. That's why I love this place, b/c my family members do not what cheats are and honestly, they probably don't give a shit. But you guys know what I mean! We went through this on purpose, but we all know what it feels like those moments we give in and "fail". But we all also know we must pick ourselves up and move on, in order to succeed.
SO WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED DURING THIS UNFORTUNATE WEEK, class????
1. If I plan ahead, I do great.
2. If I eat before I'm starving, I do well.
3. If I measure stuff out, my large eyeballs are put to rest and I do not go back for 2nd's (99% of the time).
4. If I snack, I want to snack more.
5. If I eat bad foods, I want to eat more bad foods.
GOAL FOR SEPT TO DO BETTER STILL: (lose 4lbs/wk) <--reach for the stars right!?!
1. LIMIT CAFFEINE DRINKS
2. ABSOLUTELY ONLY 3 MEALS A DAY!
3. TEMPORARY VACAY FROM THE QUASADILAS
4. EXERCISE 5X A WEEK FOR THE ENTIRE MTH, ANY FORM OF EXERCISE, JUST NEED TO GET IN THE HABIT OF IT.
5. PLAN & MEASURE BEFORE EATING, PUT THE REST OF FOOD AWAY, FAR FAR AWAY!!!

P.s. Comment w/ any other tips you guys have for me! If you've been through these situations, let me know what you did to conquer it. I am open to all opinions. Except the wii for exercise, that's too much money! haha! oH AND I feel cramps coming on so I'm guessing (.) will be here shortly.So for the next week or so I will probably just shoot for steady weight, no weight gain.

Well, I guess I am actually happy to know that you could cheat if you wanted too. I always wondered how you could possibly go FOREVER and not cheat (it just not possible for me). And you know how we had talked about the mental part of cheating, sometimes you just need a piece of chocolate cake or something. I don't know. Anyway, just look at like today is a new day and a new week... YOU CAN DO IT!!!
