wAS Stuck in my HeAd!
Ok so first let me start by saying, I was not going crazy or anything while I was absent. I had a crappy day Thur and Fri b/c I was just too focused on my weight. The scale hasn't stalked my thoughts like that for months. But I have this goal to be 199 by Aug 6th for our family reunion (meetin' lots of new people I don't know, haha) and seeing S and so I just want that goal soooo bad! So I had become once again obsessed with the number on the scale every morning.
I worked out super hard last week and thought I'd have a loss early this week. I only worked out two days this week. I'd like my minimum to be 3 and I had time Fri for a workout but really just didn't feel like bothering with it, I don't know why.
I spent all day Fri trapped in my head. This may sound crazy to some but it happens to me on a semi regular basis. It is the reason I'm a writer. When my thoughts get crazy, amplified, or emotions heightened I MUST WRITE. So I started the day writing an article for the column and then just had all these other overwhelming thoughts. When I feel the need to write, if I DO NOT write, I feel like I'll go crazy. I feel peaceful when I get it out of my head and onto paper. So that's what I did. I wrote "personal" stuff yesterday. And sat at my desk for HOURS! And it felt good. It was what I needed. So yeah, that's what I mean by saying I was stuck in my head all day, didn't leave the house once.
Ok so I woke up this morning was NOT going to weigh. Then I thought, "Well let me just see where I'm at." so I weighed and it said 215. I was instantly a little pissed but I did go over calories yesterday and so I just said "Oh well". Then I remembered everyone commenting on my blog and FB page saying I was gaining muscle. First of all, I didn't know it was possible to gain a few lbs of muscle in the course of 2 days (I did 2 weight lifting days, one right after another). So I think Pie said I probably lost 2 lbs of fat and gained 4 lbs of muscle? Sounds good but I didn't know this was humanly possible, for that to happen so quickly.
So I decided I'd do a few measurements and see how my body is doing physically, rather than on the scale. I did my monthly measurements on 7-19 and then when I did my stomach measurements this morning I'D LOST 1 1/2 INCHES OFF MY ABS AND 1 INCH OFF MY WAIST IN 5 DAYS!!!! I was, am soooo happy! Happy to see my body is responding and it IS losing fat, it's shrinking but I am apparently just gaining muscle. I had no idea that was possible so fast! So what I'm gonna do is keep working out like I did this last week. I'd do an hour of cardio and 30-45 mins of weightlifting. I may limit myself to 30 mins on the weights and do 1 1/2 hrs of cardio, I think that'd be a pretty good ratio. That would give me time to do an hour on the elliptical and 6-7 miles on cycling. So I hope this plan works for me.
We leave for our road trip a week from today!!!!!!! I am so excited but I am also super super super super OMG super worried about eating right on the road trip and how I'll get physical activity. I already thought maybe when we get to the hotel at night I can have my mom watch me out the window while I run laps around the parking lot, but I'm terrified somebody would try to kidnap me b/c more than likely it'll be like 11 at night by the time we make the stop! LOL! So I don't know!
Please give me any tips you have for safe road tripin'!!! Last time I did a road trip was 2 mths pre op and I was NOT so worried about my weight. I ate fast food, and lived on Monster energy drinks the whole way! And of course, put on weight in the process. I don't wanna do that this time. Plus, I know when you travel and sit on your butt your liquids all get trapped in your body somehow and you end up bloated and gross. So I'll probably try to drink water/cranberry juice along the way so I'm not retaining too much water.
Once we get to where we're going all of our vacation and tourist stuff includes physical activity. We'll be walking all over museum's, historic districts, swimming, skiing, etc. So I'm just worried about the days stuck IN the car! Any advice, I'm ALL EARS!!!!
PLUS; a friend of mine does these detox oil baths and skin brushing and all this stuff that sounds nifty to me. I'm thinking about giving it a try. Just adding it in as another tool to have a healthy body, or healthy skin, and just take better care of myself. If anyone is interested in that, I'll sharing more info as I learn more and when I give it a try for the first time!!!

I HOPE EVERYONE HAS A FAN-TABULOUS WEEKEND!
Hi! I just got back from a road trip and the days in the car were the easiest for me, actually. I packed a small cooler with greek yogurts, cottage cheese, and light string cheeses for snacking. I replaced my energy drink/diet cola habit with a variety of those packets that you add to water -- the kind with green tea or the 'energy' ones with caffeine.
ReplyDeleteIt was when I was at our destination, eating with my husband and all my in-laws, that I had a hard time, even with all the walking and activity. :\
The cranberry juice sounds like a great idea - I wish I'd thought to bring some cranberry capsules, as I bloated pretty badly with all the driving. Though we were stopping to pee all-too-often already, I probably didn't need anymore potty breaks! *laugh*
When you increase your exercise, especially resistance training, what you're actually doing is creating tiny little microscopic tears in your muscles. That's why you MUST rest and eat plenty of protein, because in order to repair the damage your body needs to rebuild itself. To do so, you retain fluids and extra blood that goes to the little muscle injuries to heal them. A temporary increase of 5 pounds is totally normal when you're lifting. So, if you're only up two but your inches are down, I'm sure you're losing fat.
ReplyDeleteAs for the road trip thing, I try not to drink too much when we're traveling because I don't want to take too many pee breaks, but for a few days before it, I drink loads of water and decrease salt. Take every opportunity to stop and stretch every few hours. Snack on moisture-rich foods like fruits and veggies. When you get to your destination drink lots of water.
I cover 4 states for work so I spend at least one week a month in my car traveling to see clients.
ReplyDeleteI don't eat fast food so I can't help you there, but I do enjoy Jimmy John's unwiches (basically, their sandwiches wrapped in lettuce rather than in bread.) The downside is that they don't have as many locations as Subway, but Subway can be decent in a pinch, too.
Honestly, like J said, the best thing to do is pack a cooler with some string cheese, fruit you can tolerate, maybe some nuts if those aren't a trigger food for you. I also like those soy crisp crackers- they aren't as bad for you as chips but give you something to snack on when the urge hits and they are great with those single serving tuna packs they have now. Be sure to pack water and RTD protein drinks, too. Crystal Light does make single serving packs that you can pour into a 16 or 20 oz bottle of water and that will give you some variety.
Most gas stations with little minimarts have string cheese in the cooler sections but if you strike out there, just hit the nearest grocery store to your exit.
Good luck and have fun on your trip!
You're going to have such a great time!
ReplyDeleteTake some healthy snacks with you on your trip. If there are things that need to be cold take a cooler. Maybe see if your hotel has a gym in it. And whenever you guys stop for a pee break or to fill up on gas walk around the parking lot just to get some kinda movement. And most importantly ENJOY YOUR TRIP!!! :)
